GLENDALE SHOW’S FUTURE SECURED (March 2006)
The future of one of Northumberland’s oldest agricultural societies at Wooler has been secured, thanks to an £85,000 grant.
Glendale Agricultural Society, which runs the popular annual Glendale Show, has been awarded the money from Defra’s Rural Enterprise Scheme over the next three years. The grant will be used to maintain and develop the society for future generations, ensure the sustainability of the show – the largest in north Northumberland – and advance children’s countryside education and other projects.
The children’s education in the countryside day will be held over two days on Wednesday, June 7 th and Thursday, June 8 th. Almost 2,000 schoolchildren from Northumberland and Tyneside are expected to attend.
The Glendale Show, the premier agricultural show in north Northumberland, will be held this year for the 114 th time at The Showfield, North Middleton, near Wooler, on Summer Bank Holiday Monday, August 28 th. A highlight of last year’s event was a speciality food marquee featuring the Northumbria Larder demonstration kitchen. The show always attracts large crowds and is one of around 30 consumer events Northumbria Larder members have been invited to take part in this year all over the country.
In addition, there is a growing list of trade events, mixed consumer and trade shows, and national food and drink events stretching all the way to Christmas. And they would all be delighted to welcome North East food and drink producers.
