The Bell family have farmed in Northumberland for over 400 years and in 1999 we decided develop our farming enterprise by retraining as a butcher and marketing our own prize winning lamb.
We have always tried to be custodians of the countryside and in 1992 we were one of the first farmers to enter into The Country Side Stewardship Scheme. This encourages the wildlife to flourish by creating new ponds, hedges and habitats by not using chemicals or pesticides on the grass. This farming method reverts back to what our forbearers did and hopefully creates a sustainable business to pass onto future generations.
Known throughout the North East as 'The Lamb Man', we supply high quality traditionally reared lamb during our season, which is from August to the end of March. Historically lambing time in Northumberland is in April and this is the time when we revert back to farming.
We mainly sell through the Farmers' Markets and through Morpeth's traditional 500 year old weekly Wednesday Market or if you prefer you can order online via our new website www.thelambman.com.
All the lamb comes from our farm at Wingates and is cut and packed by ourselves in our fully licenced on farm butchery. This enables us to keep complete control and traceability over the product. We try to produce the best quality lamb, normally hung between 7 - 14 days at a competitive price, normally undercutting the supermarkets!!
