Criteria for Membership:
Northumbria Larder members characteristically produce high quality fine food & drink products from within the region of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley.

If you:

  • source natural raw materials as locally as possible
  • support local growers whenever possible
  • promote individual and traditional methods wherever possible
  • use local employees
  • have traceability of raw materials where relevant
  • develop regional identity
  • promote the high added value in your product to your customers
  • have high product quality
  • support and/or attend local farmers' markets or other regional food Events
  • add regional value to your product
  • have HACCP procedure in place

then we would be interested in talking to you about becoming a member of Northumbria Larder.

A member of Northumbria Larder will have the following benefits:

  • funding/support towards the costs relating to Events under the banner of the Northumbria Larder
  • access to exclusive direct sales events
  • listing on the Northumbria Larder website
  • access to promotional materials
  • business advice and support
  • selected preferential rates to certain services
  • directory of member producers
  • entry into the annual Food from Britain Directory
  • access to free and subsidised training seminars

Northumbria Larder wants promote confidence in members' products through consistent excellent standards and service through:

  • adhering to all relevant legislation including Food Safety & Hygiene, Trading Standards etc
  • clear pricing policy
  • clear indication where produce is manufactured
  • clear labelling of produce to including price, weight, ingredients, best before/use by date etc
  • indicating membership of Northumbria Larder where appropriate

The following membership categories apply to all new members and to current members from 1 st April 2004

Introductory Membership (Small producers under £100k turnover) – Fee £50
This is for the first year of membership and no web site will be provided

Category ‘A’ Membership – Fee £100
For any regional food & drink producer with a turnover up to £250K

Category ‘B’ Membership – Fee £150
For any regional food & drink producer with a turnover from £250K - £500k

Category ‘C’ Membership – Fee £200
For any regional food & drink producer with a turnover from £500K - £1million

Category ‘D’ Membership – Fee £300
For any regional food & drink producer with a turnover over £1million

Associate Membership – Fee £100
Any business in the food & drink sector that is not a producer but uses and supports regional food and drink within their organisation e.g. Restaurant, Hotel, Cater etc

Affiliated Membership – Fee £200
Any business not involved in the food and drink sector but of assistance to Northumbria Larder members e.g. Packaging, Insurance, I.T. etc.

Associate and Affiliated members have no voting or nomination rights and will not attend the AGM or General Meetings unless invited.

Associate and Affiliated Members will have the following benefits:-

  • access to the NL directory and regional food producers
  • recognition by NL as a supporter of regional food
  • preferential involvement in NL activities and events

All producers will be visited and audited by Northumbria Larder prior to their acceptance of membership to Northumbria Larder.

The Northumbria Larder wants to promote confidence in members' products through consistent excellent standards and service through:

  • Adhering to all relevant legislation including Food Safety/Hygiene and Trading Standards Regulations wherever appropriate.
  • Clear pricing policy.
  • Clear indication where produce is made .
  • Clear labeling of produce including:
    • Price.
    • Weight.
    • Ingredients.
    • Best before date (where appropriate)
  • Indicating membership of The Northumbria Larder.
  • Projecting a positive and courteous image
